Yes, the new health care reform law is complicated and the legislation fills several thousand pages and the implementation regulations seem to be running in the tens of thousands of pages according to several news broadcasts. Only a few of us have even read it fully through. But it's about to affect all of us, and we constantly wonder what it will hold in relation to our health, our money and the USA in total.
Studies show about 3 out of 10 of us say health care reform will make us better off, 3 out of 10 say we will be worse off, and 3 out 0f 10 think it won't make any difference whatsoever. Some of us don't even know what we think. We take a look at what the reform law says and what it doesn't say and what it will do for us. If one wants to read the entire law it may take a year or so. The problems in our current health care system generally stem from money. Health insurance policies are just too expensive. The average premium for a family is in the neighborhood of $12,000 to $14,000 dollars a year and more in many cases. Premiums have increased dramatically over the last 10 years, increasing much faster than inflation.
At the same time, our population is continuing to age and thus we have more people with more health problems. Health care costs at the same time are the fastest growing part of the federal budget.
